Spring 2010
Focusing on the theme of ‘craft’, the brewing process at all scales was deeply analyzed – from one’s own home kitchen to the largest macro operations. These studies explored the formal and tectonic nature of the brewing equipment, even making allusions between the process and circuitry and railroad switchgear. The project inserts this distinct ‘architecture of beer’ as a steel tower within a derelict Ionic bank building in Los Angeles’ downtown – a Russian doll, with a restaurant at grade, and the entire brewing process suspended twelve stories above.
